I love mapping, maps and most anything to do with maps. This week we started to map our path for missions 03, 04 and 05. The vision was this beautifully draw path with calculated angles and color coded line segments... In the end, we at least got a mapped path.
Core Values
This week we're reviewing and working on pointing out the core values that we've introduced so far.
Teamwork - We are stronger when we work together.
Innovation - We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
Inclusion - We respect each other and embrace our differences.
There was a lot of individual work being done on the mapping and we weren't adhering to any core values. But, we turned it around and the boys sat down together and were able to work together (teamwork), be creative and persist (innovation), along with overcoming their individual differences (inclusion) to come up with a combined path map.
Innovation Project Ideas
Kailash shared his research with the team. This week the team is tasked with creating a powerpoint presentation of the research they have done so far.
Missions 03, 04 and 05
The first meeting of the week we focused on the mapping of our path from the home position to these three missions.
More Accuracy
Last week we used the geometry of the robot’s wheels to determine how many rotations are needed to travel distance X. That same principle applies to turning as well. During this week's second meeting we taught the boys how to calculate the circumference of the path traveled and how to use that to determine the number of rotations to turn. We're focused on making pivot turns. Now the team understands how to determine degrees via the port view and how to calculate the number of rotations for both going straight and making pivot turns.
